When should you see a rheumatologist?

Many people wait months — sometimes years — with symptoms a rheumatologist can diagnose and treat. Ask your doctor for a referral, or call us, if any of these sound familiar:

  • Joint pain, stiffness, or swelling that lasts more than a few weeks
  • Morning stiffness that takes more than 30 minutes to loosen up
  • Swollen, warm, or tender joints with no injury to explain them
  • Joint pain along with a rash, psoriasis, or nail changes
  • Muscle weakness, unexplained fevers, or extreme fatigue
  • Back or neck pain that is worst in the morning and eases as you move
  • A positive ANA or rheumatoid factor, or high inflammation markers, on labs from your doctor
  • Gout attacks that keep coming back

Sound familiar? Early treatment protects your joints.
